During Junior's story, he makes new friends who respect him more than the people on the rez. Gordy was Junior's new friend at Reardan. They both came together because both were really smart, shared the same interests, and they both needed a friend. Gordy is like Junior's "comrade" at school. They are both a bit nerdy, but they connect so they become very good friends. Junior needs Gordy because leaving and going to Reardan was very difficult for him. Gordy makes him more comfortable in school so he begins to enjoy it more. These relationships he makes at his new school make him stronger and build up his self confidence. Without these people, Junior would have struggled a lot more at Reardan.
